Despite that binaural audio is currently reaching commercial success in the cinema industry, the technology has not been exploited in other industries such as music or interactive storytelling productions. Although there have been several small-scale efforts done by individuals and organizations, none of them has a massive penetration in the creative industries.
BINCI provides a market-ready solution for sound designers, producers and artists, aiming to become the leading professional software and hardware tool for binaural audio production in the market.
What is binaural audio?
3D audio perception is the and, more widely, to be aware of the acoustic structure of its surrounding environment using a variety of acoustic cues.
The spatial sound perception provides us with several key elements: sound direction and distance, type of location (indoor or outdoor, large or small room, material of the walls and ground…), number of sounds and even sound source discrimination. What we call binaural audio is the reproduction of this sound, as perceived by human ear, through headphones.
Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) will be the main beneficiaries from the BINCI project, which will provide these industries tools to produce in a cost-efficient way immersive audio contents.
Cultural and Creative industries, including advertising, architecture, books, gaming, music, movies, press, performing arts, radio, TV and visual arts businesses, have a big impact in the economy worldwide. Europe is the second-largest Cultural and Creative Industries market, accounting for 32% of the total global revenues and 7.7 million jobs.
